We all belong to a family in one way or another. I find that I work with all my clients from the perspective of how they belong or are significant within their family unit. Although getting an entire family into therapy is difficult, this form of therapy can produce some of the most significant changes. A family is like an individual in so many ways. It lives, it feels, it thinks and it behaves. Just like an individual, it creates patterns and learns skills to ensure its survival. Those family patterns and skills, however, don’t always produce the best results. Negative patterns become habitual and difficult to change leaving many families in crisis and that is where family therapy comes into play.
After spending years as a family reconciliation therapist helping families overcome crisis, I learned to read and respond to the dynamics in families. A family’s chaos and calm are all a part of the dynamic emotion that moves from excitement to frustration, happiness to disappointment. Thus, when families find themselves unbalanced and conflict driven, I am there to guide them to a healthier plateau. As families grow and reach new developmental stages, I am there to help trouble shoot new dilemmas and roadblocks. And when families find themselves reconfiguring by way of divorce or remarriage, I am there to counsel them through the emotional challenges and find new rules to live by.
